November 30, 2022 – Flagler County Emergency Management is encouraging all Flagler County residents who own their single-family homes to see if they are eligible for a free wind mitigation (hurricane) inspection currently available through the “My Safe FL Home” program.

“Wind mitigation inspections identify potential improvements that can be made to better protect your home from high winds, such as those in a hurricane,” said Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord. “You may also qualify for mandatory homeowner’s insurance discounts if the inspection identifies certain wind-mitigation measures that have already been made either during its original construction or through a subsequent upgrade.”

Funding for these free inspections – which are on a first-come, first-served basis statewide – are only available to the site-built, single-family residential homes.

“The Florida Chief Financial Officer’s Department of Financial Services, who oversees this program, estimates that between 140,000 and 145,000 initial home inspections will be funded,” Lord said. “I don’t want to see any of our eligible homeowners miss out on this opportunity. I know this is a busy time of year because of the holidays, but this is one of the best gifts you can give yourself.”

Additionally, certain homeowners who live within the “Windborne Debris Region” may qualify for grants to offset some of the cost of installing approved wind-strengthening measures. This region is generally those homes within one mile of the coastline and includes everything east of the Intracoastal Waterway and properties east of a line extending from Colbert Lane to Roberts Road down John Anderson Highway.
