Topic: Steam boating on the St. John's and the Ocklawaha Rivers

This talk covers the history of steam boating on the St. John's River and the Ocklawaha between 1830-1920 from Jacksonville to Sanford.  Learn about how steamboats transformed Florida's tourism and economy.  Learn about Civil War battles involving steamboats on the river and who were the victors.  Trace the amazing journey to Silver Springs and the must see and do tourist trip of the late 19th Century.  Learn about the characters and steamship lines that competed on the river.  Discover Florida's first tourist highway and why the river became a Gilded Age center of tourism.
